April 9 – April 15

During National Library Week, April 9 – 15, patrons can donate food to lower their overdue fines. The library will reduce a fine balance by $1 per non-perishable food item, up to a maximum of $5 per person. The donations can only be used to reduce overdue fines and cannot be used to pay for lost or damaged items or pay other kinds of fees.

The library has gathered food for Linn-Benton Food Share for several years and it is a popular event, according to Circulation Supervisor Shaun Hearn: “People often donate food even when they have no fines. Some ‘pay it forward,’ donating food to reduce the fines of the next person who comes to the desk.”

“We chose this time of year to hold our food drive because donations often dry up in the spring and summer months,” said Hearn.  “We always try to beat our previous record, so we hope a lot of people come in with donations.”

Library branches in Corvallis, Philomath, Monroe and Alsea will accept any non-perishable food.
