Ongoing Events for Teens

All teen events are offered at no cost for teens in middle and high school (6th-12th grade), unless otherwise noted. Please note dates, times, and locations below, or on the Library Events Calendar.

Makers Club

Makers Club is a twice-monthly meet-up for all ages to explore technology and other forms of making. Go hi-tech with virtual reality, 3D printing, and programming. Get lo-tech with arts and crafts. Experiment with circuits, robots, and construction.  Make it happen at the library!

All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own project and/or laptop if you’d like to! All ages welcome!  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Teen Advisors – Society for the Prevention of Boredom in Teens

This is a teen leadership group that advises staff about library spaces, events, and materials for teens. Teens may apply to join by completing a Teen Advisor Membership Application. Applications are also available at the library in the teen area and at the Youth Services desk. The Society meets in the Storytime Room at the library on the 3rd Fridays of the month from 4:30-6pm, then stays to help set up for the Teen Takeovers on those nights.

Teen First Fridays

Join us for an afternoon of rotating activities on the first Friday of each month from 4-6pm. Materials are provided; events are FREE.

Teen Takeover!

play games. watch movies. make art.

Teen Takeover! is an after-hours hangout for teens on the 3rd Friday of each month from 6:30-9pm. Find us in the Main Meeting Room playing Xbox One, Wii U, PS4, and tabletop/board games, making art, and watching movies during the school year. Materials, consoles and games, and snacks provided.

This is an after-hours event! Enter the library through the Monroe Ave doors. NEW: Signed permission form required for all after-hours events; forms available at the library and at the events.

2019 Teen Takeovers!
Friday May 17, 6:30-9pm: Nerf Games*** + Movie (teen choice!)

Friday June 21, 6:30-9pm: games. art. movie. Watch a recent release about a classic rock band with a notorious lead singer (PG13), and try out alcohol ink art, making magnets and decorating small dishes!

Friday July 19, 7pm-12 midnight! Teen Midnight Late-Night & Star Party! Stay in the library til midnight, with games, movies, art projects, and a special teen star party with the Heart of the Valley Astronomers! **Special late-night permission form required.**

Friday August 16, 6:30-9pm: Fan Con! Celebrate fave fandoms with activities and art. Cosplay welcome!

*** For Nerf Games events, unmodded Nerf equipment is permitted; no Rivals blasters, please. Some Nerf equipment provided, as well as darts and snacks. No registration required.

Teen Summer Reading

Teens in or entering middle and high school can enter to win great prizes by reading and listening over the summer, as well as attending teen library events. Our 2019 Summer at Your Library season kicks off with a Fun Run on Saturday June 8. Register online for the Fun Run here, and check out more info about teen summer events here.

The public library is a free lunch site! Youth 18 years and younger can eat a free lunch at the library weekdays from 12:15-12:45pm, June 24 – August 23.
