Ongoing Events for Teens

All teen events are offered at no cost for teens in middle and high school (6th-12th grade), unless otherwise noted. Please note dates, times, and locations below, or on the Library Events Calendar.

Makers Club

Makers Club is a twice-monthly meet-up for all ages to explore technology and other forms of making. Go hi-tech with virtual reality, 3D printing, and programming. Get lo-tech with arts and crafts. Experiment with circuits, robots, and construction.  Make it happen at the library!

All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own project and/or laptop if you’d like to! All ages welcome!  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Teen Advisors – Society for the Prevention of Boredom in Teens

This is a teen leadership group that advises staff about library spaces, events, and materials for teens. Teens may apply to join by completing a Teen Advisor Membership Application. Applications are also available at the library in the teen area and at the Youth Services desk. The Society meets in the Storytime Room at the library on the 3rd Fridays of the month from 4:30-6pm, then stays to help set up for the Teen Takeovers on those nights.

Teen Code Club

Teen Code Club is back this fall! Starting in October, teens can explore coding through music and sound in this monthly meet-up led by a coder from OSU, Dan Vega! Chromebooks and snacks provided; personal laptops welcome. Teens may begin any month Code Club is offered. Meets monthly on 2nd Thursdays from 4-5:30pm. No coding experience necessary.

2019 Code Club Dates: 1/10, 2/14, 3/14, and 4/11

Teen First Fridays

Join us for an afternoon of board games, rotating activities, and visits with therapy dogs on the first Friday of each month from 4-6pm. Materials are provided; events are FREE. Therapy dogs visit from 4-5pm.

2018 First Friday Events:
11/2 – Open Mic + Therapy Dogs – Teens can read a poem, talk, sing, do stand-up…or watch! Teens at the mic must keep content and language PG; sessions are 6 minutes or less.
12/7 – Comedy Movie + Therapy Dogs

Teen Takeover!

play games. watch movies. make art.

Teen Takeover! is an after-hours hangout for teens on the 3rd Friday of each month from 6:30-9pm (NEW END TIME). Find us in the Main Meeting Room playing Xbox One, Wii U, PS4, and tabletop/board games, making art, and watching movies during the school year. Materials, consoles and games, and snacks provided. This is an after-hours event! Enter the library through the Monroe Ave doors.

*** For Nerf Games events, unmodded Nerf equipment is permitted; no Rivals blasters, please. Signed 2018 permission form required; forms available at the library and at the event. Some Nerf equipment provided, as well as darts and snacks. No registration required.

Teen Winter Break Reading Challenge

Teens in middle and high school can complete our winter break reading challenge for a chance to win gift certificates to local businesses. Our 2017-2018 Winter Break Reading Challenge has concluded and winner contacted. Check back in December 2018 for next year’s challenge!

Teen Summer Reading

Teens in or entering middle and high school can enter to win great prizes by reading and listening over the summer, as well as attending teen library events. Completed reading logs must be turned in by September 9; prize drawing will take place later that week. Get more details about events and materials here!
