Ongoing Events for Teens

All teen events are offered at no cost for teens in middle and high school (6th-12th grade), unless otherwise noted. Please note dates, times, and locations below, or on the Library Events Calendar.

Makers Club

The Makers Club meets every second and fourth Tuesday from 4-5:30pm in the Main Meeting Room of the Corvallis Library. Learn basic programming with open-source platforms such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi. Check out rotating maker activities with community partner Project X from OSU, too! This group is open to all ages.

Makers also explore 3-D modeling and printing with the library’s 3-D printer. Programming platforms and materials provided; makers are welcome to bring their own laptops if they’d like.

Teen Advisors – Society for the Prevention of Boredom in Teens

This is a teen leadership group that advises staff about library spaces, events, and materials for teens. Teens may apply to join by completing a Teen Advisor Membership Application. Applications are also available at the library in the teen area and at the Youth Services desk. The Society meets in the library board room (located in the basement) on the 3rd Fridays of the month from 4:30-6pm, then stays to help set up for the Teen Takeovers on those nights.

Teen First Friday

Join us for a variety of activities on the first Friday of each month from 4-6pm. We’ll have movie days, game days, workshops, and more. Materials are provided; events are FREE.

Future First Friday Events: Friday April 7, Friday May 5, June 2

In April, explore juggling and Magic the Gathering by learning from teens who can show you how juggle and play Magic. Juggling materials and snacks provided; Magic players who have decks should bring them along.

In May, explore coding at the library. Laptops, instruction, and snacks provided. Teens who want to bring their own laptops are welcome to do so.

Teen Takeover!

play games. watch movies. make art.

Teen Takeover! is an after-hours hangout for teens on the 3rd Friday of each month from 6:30-8:30pm. Find us in the Main Meeting Room playing Xbox One, Wii U, and tabletop/board games, making art, and watching movies during the school year. Materials, Wii U and Xbox One games, and snacks provided. This is an after-hours event! Enter the library through the Monroe Ave doors.

Future Teen Takeovers! : Friday April 21 6:30-8:30pm, Friday May 19 6:30-8:30pm, Friday June 16 6:30-8:30pm

In April, teens in 7th-12th grades are invited for Nerf Games (6th graders, catch Tween Nerf Night in May)! Un-modded Nerf equipment is welcome; label all parts with your name. Snacks and some Nerf equipment provided. We will be playing Nerf Games only; no movie, video games, or art at this month’s Takeover. Parent/guardian permission form required; copies available at the youth services desk.

In May, all teens are invited to play video games like Halo and Smash, watch Sherlock Holmes (with RDJ), and create their own mandala.

Teen Writers

Teens, write with us and meet our writing group leader, Robin Cedar, published author and poet! Teen Writers is for teens interested in creating new work and exploring new forms of writing. Free. This group meets in Conference Room A (in the library basement) twice monthly on Thursdays from 4:30-5:30pm.

Future Teen Writers Meetings: Thursday March 23, Thursdays April 13 & 27, Thursdays May 11 & 25, Thursday June 8

SPECIAL WRITING WORKSHOP: Introduction to College Writing, Wed April 26, 4:30-5:50pm – FREE and open to high school students. Led by two instructors from the George Fox University’s site for the Oregon Writing Project. Space is limited and registration is encouraged. Register by calling 541-766-6794 or emailing youthservices@corvallisoregon.gov.

Teen Summer Reading

Teens in or entering middle and high school can enter to win great prizes by reading and listening over the summer, as well as attending teen library events. Get a free book, book bag, reading log, and schedule of summer events when you sign up at the youth desk for summer 2017!
