
First Readers Book Club for Kids: Take-Home Kits!
The First Readers Book Club is for kids in grades K-1. The First Readers Book Club includes a paperback copy of an early reader book, discussion questions, and a craft. If you are beginning to read and love books like Elephant and Piggie, Frog and Toad, Biscuit, and Fly Guy – this book club is for you!
The 2025-2026 First Readers Book Club kits will be offered on the following dates:
- Saturday, September 6th, 2025
- Saturday, November 1st, 2025
- Saturday, January 3, 2026
- Saturday, March 7, 2026
- Saturday, May 2, 2026
- Saturday, July 11, 2026
Available while supplies last. Books and supplies are provided by the Friends of the Library.

September 6, 2025: All Are Welcome: Welcome Back! by Alexandra PenfoldIllustrations and rhyming text follow a group of children who learn how to write, spell, make friends, and be kind on the first day back at school.A limited number of kits will be available for pick-up beginning Saturday, September 6, 2025, on a first-come, first-served basis at each library branch.

November 1, 2025: Mouse and Spoon: Owlets and Tarts by Cynthia RylantMom and Dad Owl are exhausted–their three little owlets refuse to go to sleep. They need pillow tarts for their babies, and quickly! Will Ginger, Tom, and Piper at the Mouse and Spoon Bakery be able to help?
A limited number of kits will be available for pick-up beginning Saturday, November 1, 2025, on a first-come, first-served basis at each library branch.

January 3, 2026: Little Penguin’s New Friend by Laura DriscollA polar bear is coming to visit! Little Penguin has never met a polar bear, but has heard that they’re scary. He wonders if he should believe everything he hears.

March 7, 2026: Farm Friends: Poppy’s Pollinators by Kimberly DertingWhen it is time to plant her flower garden, Poppy’s father explains about the importance of pollinators and she decides to plant flowers that will attract bees and butterflies to the farm.A limited number of kits will be available for pick-up beginning Saturday, March 7, 2026, on a first-come, first-served basis at each library branch.

May 2, 2026: Geraldine Pu and Her Lunch Box, Too! by Maggie P. ChangGeraldine Pu’s favorite part of school is lunch. She loves her lunch box, which she calls Biandang.
